Roy Raymond Pewitt, age 83, a longtime resident of Columbia, passed away on June 23, 2020, at Hillside Hospital in Pulaski.
Raymond was born June 10, 1937, in Franklin, TN, the son of Norman Pewitt, Sr. and Callie Letson Pewitt. Raymond was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt and fish. He was an inventor and could fix most anything. He loved to tinker with things. He was a U.S Army Veteran serving in Germany and France. He was a member of Viola Baptist Church in Columbia.
Raymond is survived by daughters, Lori (Mike) Grooms, and Paula (Ed) Garrison, both of Columbia. Brothers, Joel (Kathy) Pewitt of Columbia, and Norman Jr. (Linda) Pewitt of Culleoka. Sister, Nona Sisk of Knoxville. Two grandchildren, Ashley (Shawn) Stewart of Santa Fe and Dusty (Raqi) Grooms of Culleoka. Five great-grandchildren, Saylee Marshall, Hunter Stewart, Kadom Stewart, Wiley Stewart, and Natalie Grooms, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life Barbara Wiley Pewitt on January 13, 2016, and one sister Pauline (Polly) Pewitt.
Services in honor of Raymond will be held on Friday, June 26, 2020, beginning at 2:00 pm at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, TN. The family will visit with friends from 12:00 pm until the beginning of the service. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. Jim Ledbetter will be officiating the service.
Pallbearers will be Dusty Grooms, Shawn Stewart, Joey Pewitt, Mike Sisk, Tim Williamson, and John Wiley.
Honorary Pallbearers include Hunter Stewart, Kadom Stewart, Frank Williamson, Al Flatt, Tommy Hazelwood, and Jimmy Aslinger.
