Roy Cecil Morton

August 30, 1931 — June 13, 2015

Roy Cecil Morton, age 83, went home to be with the Lord, on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at his residence in Spring Hill, Tennessee surrounded by his family.

Roy was born on August 30, 1931 in Maury County to the late Walter Morton and Lizzie Kelly Morton. Roy was married to Barbara Callison. He worked as a custodian in the Southfield Public Schools in Southfield, Michigan for thirty-one years before retiring. He was a self-taught guitar player who loved to sing his favorite artist Johnny Cash. He loved dancing and going out to eat with his friends. He loved to spend time with family and was always telling “colorful” but clean jokes. Roy always had a garden and loved to garden. He read the Bible at least fifty times cover to cover. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church.

The family will visit with friends on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tennessee with Rev. Ron Paul officiating. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Roy is survived by his daughters Joy (David) Shumate of Florida, Melody (Jim) Benedict of Indiana, and Lori (Arlis) Fox of Lynnville, Tennessee; son Steve (Lisa) Morton; six grandsons Dustin (Laura) Ballard of Tennessee, Stephen (Reanna) Benedict of North Carolina, Nathan Benedict of Indiana, Hunter Shumate of Florida,Trey Fox of Tennessee, and Steven Morton of Tennessee; six granddaughters Elisabeth Benedict of California, Anna Benedict of Indiana, Natalie Shumate of Florida, Dawn Fox of Tennessee, Michelle Fox of Tennessee, Bethany Morton of Tennessee; three great-granddaughters Alyssa Ballard of Tennessee, Savannah Baker of Tennessee, and Lizzy Baker; great-grandson Landon Morton; and sister-in-law Marilyn (Mike) Langley of Michigan.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Lizzie Morton; his wife Barbara Callison Morton; and nine brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Trey Fox, Hunter Shumate, Oscar Olguin, Wesley Warren, Jim Kelly, and Daniel Paul.

Honorary Pallbearers are Fran Abel and Randall Scott.
