Mr. Roger Franklin Monroe, age 75, loving husband, father and friend and a resident of Dorset Court in Spring Hill, passed away Wednesday, October 13 at Maury Regional Medical Center after a year long battle with throat cancer.
Born January 10, 1935 in Los Angeles, CA, son of the late Murray F. Monroe and Kaye Faulkner Monroe Shisbey and the husband of Vickie Hubbard Monroe for 33 years. He worked as an electrician constructing draglines and mining equipment and was on the biggest dragline ever built from start to finish, the "Big Muskie", then he traveled the world as an erection advisor for Marion Power & Shovel Company for 15 years. He retired and started his own consulting business, Meers Company LLC, in Spring Hill which was in business for 16 years. He was a member of UMWA, a veteran of 101st Airborne, an avid Pittsburg Steelers fan and a member of Grace Church of the Nazarene for 15 years. Mr. Monroe was trusted, respected and will be missed by all who knew him and loved him and his love for the Lord and people will always be remembered.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Debra Linebaugh of Temecula, CA, Barry Monroe of Tucson, AZ, Cynthia Monroe of Columbia, SC, Lisa Carroll of Arvada, CO, Phyllis Wallace of Robards, KY, Timothy Monroe of Tucson, AZ, Jennifer Wallace of Robards, KY, Jeffrey Monroe of Newburgh, IN and Aaron Monroe of Spring Hill, TN; sister: Beverly Murphy of Mt. Vernon, WA; brother: Gary Monroe of Westminster, CA; 15 cherished grandchildren and 5 cherished great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother: Delbert Monroe and his step-father: Earle Shisbey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Bishop, Billy Sargent, Bob Miller, Bobby Kilpatrick, C.J. Gooch, Carlos Mosier, Charradi Kazar, David Beard, Jack Auville, Dr. John Billingsley, Dick Smith, Ernie Zavoral, Fred Garrow, Fred Sargent, Hershel Currie, Jerry Bishop, Jerry Strahan, Jim Shuck, Johnny Jaggers, John Tobin, Jim Goodman, Ken Schantz, Ken Little, Leonard Wyant, Mike Grate, Mike Peorio, Melvin Hubbard, Rock Jaggers, Roy McCarthy and Steve Smith.
A service to celebrate Roger's life will be conducted 3:00 PM Sunday at Grace Church of the Nazarene with Bro. Mark Lindstrom officiating.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Saturday at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
