Robert A. "Bob" Thompson

Mr. Robert A. "Bob" Thompson, age 80, a resident of Lakes Blvd. in Columbia, passed away on Thursday, September 24, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Entombment services for Mr. Thompson will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday in the chapel of Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Columbia with Rev. Rick Elsey officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:30 to service time at the mausoleum.

Williams Funeral Home of Columbia is in charge of arrangements.

Born February 15, 1929 in Butler Co., AL, he was the son of the late Dennis and Alma Shanks Thompson and the husband of Lorna Thompson. He retired as a contract manager from Hayes Air Craft in Birmingham, AL and he negotiated the contract for the tower that held the Apollo 11. A veteran of the US Air Force, he had a hobby for collecting knifes and pens. He was a member of West End Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter: Sharon Donald Conant of Columbia; grandchildren: Jason Ray Conant of Knoxville and Caitlin Rayne Conant of Columbia. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Bruhn, Elton McCabe and members of West End Baptist Church.
