Robert M. Williams, age 85 of Columbia, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013.
“Bobby” was born November 22, 1927 to the late Thomas F. Williams and the late Hannah Turney Williams. He graduated from Central High School in 1946 before he attended Gupton-Jones Mortuary College where he graduated in 1948. He then became a second generation owner of the family’s business, Williams Funeral Home until 1982. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 19. He was also a member of the West 7th Street Church of Christ.
The family will gather with friends Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 4:00 -6:00 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with graveside services following on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 3:00 P.M. with Bro. Jeremy Butt officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 19.
Survivors include his daughter: Mrs. Winston (Pansy) Gant of Morrison, Tennessee; grandchildren: Will (Kathleen) Gant, Jr. of Nashville and Hannah (Clint) Gribble of McMinnville; great granddaughters: Caroline Gribble, Annelise Gribble, and Maggie Gant; a special friend and caretaker: Olivia Whiteside. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Hannah Williams, and his brother Pete Turney Williams.
Pallbearers will be Thomas R. Williams, Robert A. Williams, Glen T. Williams, Jerry Kennedy, Gary Boyd and Alan Blevins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Porter King, Rita Fitts, Elders & Deacons of the West 7th Street Church of Christ, Porter King Sunday School Class, and the employees of Hospice Compassus for their care.
In his name, memorials may be sent to the Veterans Honor Flight and to West 7th Street Church of Christ of Columbia.
