Robert (Bob) Stephan, Chief Petty Officer U.S. Navy, Retired, age 78, of Spring Hill, TN, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Maury Regional Medical Center, following extended illness.
Bob was born in Buffalo, NY in 1940 to William and Violet Stephan. Bob was proud to be a retiree of the U.S. Navy after over twenty-three years of service in the avionics field. During his Navy tour Bob found time to attend and graduate college with an Associate’s Degree. After retirement from the Navy, he worked for several small technical companies and ended up working the remainder of his working career with the Lockheed Martin company as a network/software engineer. Bob is what some would call a “computer geek” and enjoyed programing in many languages. During this time, he received a BA in Computer Sciences. His talents and enthusiasm were recognized by Lockheed who request that Bob become one of the leading instructors for new hires. Bob’s success and enjoyment of teaching was very apparent which was what he did until retirement at Age 62 after putting 16 years with Lockheed.
Bob cared deeply for his family, was somewhat of a prankster, slightly stubborn and would stop in his tracks to help a relative or friend. His immediate family consisted of his cherished wife and best friend Marie and his only child Lynn. Bob and Lynn had a special connection that lasted the years. The small family did everything together until Lynn moved on, marring Chris Williams. Finding retirement too laid back, Bob volunteered many hours to the San Francisco Chapter of Mending Hearts where he became editor and chief of the monthly newsletter and enjoyed the new friendship of many. Bob and Marie enjoyed a close, full life together, visiting relatives as often as possible until Marie passed away five years ago. Bob was devastated with Marie’s passing and some will say it broke his heart and he never recovered from her loss.
Bob is survived by his daughter Lynn Williams and her husband Chris Williams; siblings Lois Tucker, Susan Ross, George Stephan and William Stephan Jr. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Marie Marguerite (Jolin) Stephan, parents William Stephan and Violet Wisniewski Stephan; and brother Paul Stephan.
