Robert David Roe

Robert David Roe, age 82, a native and longtime resident of Pulaski, Tennessee, died Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Vanderbilt Medical Center,

Nashville. Born July 14, 1933 to John Edward Roe and Courtney Rebeckah Porter Roe, of Pulaski, he graduated from Baylor School in Chattanooga and attended Martin Methodist College. Robert next began serving his country in the 41st Tank Battalion, 8th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. During this time, he married his beloved wife of 61 years, Justine Pitts Roe of Mount Pleasant, Tennessee, whom he had met at Martin Methodist College. Next, he attended and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a degree in finance and business administration.

Following his graduation, Robert began a career in banking and finance that took him and his growing family to Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. In 1976, he returned to Pulaski, where he served with the Union Bank (SunTrust Bank), from which he retired. Robert was a lifelong Methodist and longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Pulaski, where he served in many capacities, including Stephen Ministry and working at Matthew 25 Thrift and Gift Shoppe. He was a Mason, a member of the Exchange Club, and a board member of New Canaan Ranch.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and by his brother John Edward Roe, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Justine Pitts Roe, his children, Courtney Roe Mott (husband, Bill), Emily Roe Strickland (husband, Joe) and David Andrew Roe (wife, Paige), and by six grandchildren, Charles Robert Mott (wife, Lauren), Courtney Leigh Mott, Joseph Whitsitt (Whit) Strickland, Jr., Roe Barron Strickland, Rebeckah Lee Roe and Parker David Roe. He is also survived by a large number of loving nieces, nephews and cousins, and by many loyal friends.

Robert had a loving, servant heart, and a special ability to listen and care for each person in which he came in contact. He gave humble and dedicated service to each organization in which he was involved, devotion and care to his friends and immeasurable love to his family. He will always be remembered for his wise counsel, joy of life, deep commitment to his faith, and a tremendous legacy of love.

The family will receive friends at the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski, Tennessee, at 12:00 noon on Friday, January 8, 2016, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm at the church.
