Robert “Rob” Wayne Martin, age 68, of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Rob was born on December 20, 1946 to Robert Hayes Martin and Juanita Lannom Martin in Nashville, Tennessee. Rob attended the University of Tennessee where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He married Janet Pentecost on September 6, 1969. Rob served his country in the US military during the Vietnam era. Rob had a forty-five year accounting career serving at several different companies including: C. Leo Miller CPA in Columbia, Tennessee - staff accountant; Finance Corps with the US Army in Fort Knox, Kentucky; Burk, Quinn, Luton, and Newburn CPAs in Memphis, Tennessee - staff accountant; Memphis Light, Gas, and Water – internal auditor and rate analyst; Bristol TN Electric System – Director of Accounting and Finance; Entergy Operations, Jackson, Mississippi – site controller, manager of payroll and accounts payable and projects; Tennessee Valley Authority, Chattanooga, Tennessee – site controller, Sequoyah Nuclear Plant and Nuclear controller; and Impact Center, Columbia, Tennessee – CFO. Rob was an avid golfer since high school, especially upon his retirement in 2014. He worked as a part-time DJ for parties, weddings receptions, reunions, and dance clubs. He was known as “Doctor Blues.” Rob was a huge fan of the University of Tennessee sports, especially football. He served his community though United Way in Vicksburg, Mississippi; CPWS Board in Columbia, Tennessee; Kiwanis in Columbia, Tennessee; and Rotary International in Bristol, Tennessee. Rob was a member of the West 7th Church of Christ.
Rob is survived by his loving wife Janet Martin of Columbia, Tennessee; son Matthew H. (Cara) Martin of Nashville, Tennessee; daughter Jill A. (Brad) Mitchell of Columbia, Tennessee; mother Juanita L. Martin of Columbia, Tennessee; sister Julie Altenbach of Atlanta, Georgia; and nephew Andrew (Julia) Altenbach of Boston, Massachusetts.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held for Rob on Saturday, January 2, 2015 at West 7th Street Church of Christ at 11:00 a.m. with Randy Owens officiating.
