Mr. Robert "Pop" George, age 86, a resident of Hampton Road and a long time resident of the Knob Creek Community passed away Friday, May 30 at Maury Regional Hospital.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Charlie Franklin George and Nettie Arnold George and the husband of Jewel Bennett George. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Mt. Wesley-Akin Church of the Nazarene. For the past two and a half years, Pop enjoyed working as a greeter and funeral director's assistant at Williams Funeral Home. He was always ready to open the door for friends and guests and willing to assist each of them in any way that he could.

In the words of Peter Jenkins, well known author, who had two homes restored by Mr. George, "Mr. George was a master carpenter who could work magic with any wood, whether it was cherry, oak, walnut or poplar. He could build basically anything whether using hand tools and power tools as he was trained when craftsman took great pride in their work, when they did it right and did it to last. I know this because Mr. George brilliantly re-built two historic homes for me in Spring Hill, one was my home now The Post and Beam restaurant and one was my office on Kedron Road. It wasn't just his gift of wood working, building and re-modeling that endeared him to people, it was his loving heart. He loved people and they loved him. Since my dad lived in Connecticut and I lived in Spring Hill, Mr. George said to me one day that I needed a Tennessee Dad and he said he would be it. From then on he called me `his boy'. He changed my life in many ways, giving me advice about farming, business, relationships, cows, politics and human nature. There is not a month that goes by that I do not quote Mr. George. God blessed him with a great family and a huge number of friends. He will live in the hearts of us all and we will pass on his wisdom to those that we love and care about and they will, in turn, do the same."

Scott of Columbia and Sheriff Enoch Phyllis George of Santa Fe; grandchildren: Tim Bonnie Scott of Columbia, Bryan Dannette George and Stacey Warf, both of Santa Fe; great-grandchildren: Cody George, Tanner Warf, Robert George and Taylor Warf, all of Santa Fe and Makayla Scott of Columbia; step-sons: Tony Liz Brown of Columbia and Danny Brown of Louisville, KY.
