Corporal Robert Lee Dugger, age 77, a resident of South High Street in Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, April 6, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

Services for Lee will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Phillip Wright and Rev. Franklin Williams officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19.

The family will visit with friends on Friday from 3:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant and on Saturday after 12:00 P.M. at the church.

Born on February 6, 1932 in Maury County, Lee was the son of the late Robert L. and Aline Alexander Dugger. On March 14, 1987, he married Wilma Nicks Dugger of Mt. Pleasant. He attended Columbia Business College and was employed in the propane gas industry for 43 years with Union Texas Petroleum, Texas Gas division. He held every elective office in the Tennessee Propane Gas Association and held a lifetime membership in that organization. Lee was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant where he was chairman of the pastor parrish relations committee.

Corporal Dugger entered the United States Marine Corps service on November 16, 1950. He was injured climbing up the side of a ship during a storm while doing amphibious training. He left Bethesda Naval Hospital on January 19, 1953 for one month leave before returning for additional experimental surgery to replace arteries in the right leg and stomach area for a total hospital stay of one year. He was discharged with 100% Medical Disability on June 3, 1953.

Lee was a Maury County Commissioner from 1994 – 1998 and 2006 to present. He was past chairman of the Mt. Pleasant Senior Citizens organization and a member of the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. He held lifetime membership in the Disabled American Veterans in chapter 22 of Maury County. He was a master gardener and grew roses for a number of years. He served as a volunteer at Maury Regional Medical Center for the past eight years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his children: Sharon Hartnett of Atlanta, GA, Lee Ann Larry Crain of Mt. Pleasant, Alan Sims and godchild, Dawn Darden of Nashville; one sister: Barbara Baker of Hohenwald; four brothers: Charlie Marion Dugger of Hohenwald, Jimmy Irene Dugger of Mt. Pleasant, Rayburn Geraldine Dugger of Mt. Pleasant and John Linda Dugger, of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Jeremy Christie Crain, Jessica Crain of Mt. Pleasant, Claire Hartnett of Atlanta, GA and great-grandchildren, Camden and Cali Crain; nieces and nephews: Jennifer Cameron, Dewayne Baker, Sherry Hardison, John Dugger, Lee Ann Parson, Mike Dugger, Robby Dugger, Phyllis Green, Charlie Dugger, Jr., Terri Hinson, and Kaye Henley. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Willa Dean Dugger and two brothers: Richard and Odell Dugger.

The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the First United Methodist Church Maintenance Fund, 202 South Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474 or the charity of your choice.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Darden, Bill Plant, Jr., Terry Lindsey, Roy Wilhoite, Frank Duncan, Joe Reischman, Bobby Sands, Elliot Hampton, Bill Cobb, Jerry Attkisson, George Brooks, Jesse Quirk, David Greenfield, Jim Spears, Ronnie Spears, Mary Williams, William E. Combs and members of the J.O. Williams Fellowship Class of First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant.
