Ret. Army MSgt. Robert L. Pangle, 81, a resident of Park Drive in Columbia, passed away Saturday, August 19, 2006, at his home.
Funeral services for Mr. Pangle will be conducted Monday, August 21, 2006 at 6:00 pm in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home with Arch Warren and Rick Points officiating. Graveside services and burial will be in the Mars Hill Cemetery, Englewood, TN on Tuesday, August 22, at 1:00 pm Eastern Time with full military honors provided by the Tennessee National Guard. The family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
Born in Etowah, TN, he was the son of the late William J. and Myrtle Armstrong Pangle and the husband of the late Wilma Deal ?Jackie? Pangle. He was retired after 20 years service with the US Postal Service in Columbia and a retired Master Sergeant of 24 years service in the US Army, serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. A recipient of the Purple Heart, Mr. Pangle along with Rep. Tom Dubois, was instrumental in having the Hwy. 43 Bypass renamed the Purple Heart Hwy. He was a member of the 487 Music City Military Ordinate Purple Heart, Etowah Masonic Lodge #653, Masonic York Rite in KY # 37, #89 and # 145 and a member of the West Minister Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his sons, Christopher Connie Pangle of Mt. Juliet, Robin Elsie Mae Pangle of Columbia and Patrick Becky Pangle of Shady Grove; a sister, Martha Ramsey of Johnson City; grandchildren, Lance Pangle, Cody Pangle, Chloe Pangle, all of Columbia, Summer Pangle of Indiana, Sean Moore and Courtney Burleson, both of Shady Grove; great grandchildren, Andrew Pangle, Hannah Pangle and Jacob Pangle, all of Mt. Pleasant.
Honorary pallbearers will be the 487 Music City Military Order of the Purple Heart.
