Mr. Robert James ?Bob? Sweigert, age 73, a resident of Auburn Lane in Columbia went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 2, after a long battle with leukemia.
A celebration of life service for Bob will be conducted Saturday, December 8 at 11:00 am at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Brian Wiesinger officiating.
The family will visit with friends on Friday, December 7 from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.
Born in Chicago, IL in 1934, he was the son of the late Clarence J. and Marjorie Potter Sweigert and husband of Rosemary Kean Sweigert. He moved to Florida in 1973 and served a tour of duty in the U.S. Marines. He was a lineman, underground splicer and repairman for BellSouth in both IL and FL. In 1996 Bob moved to Columbia and made Grace Church of the Nazarene his church home. During his years in Columbia, Bob worked for Ace Hardware, CarQuest, the YMCA and his friend, Roger Monroe. He was nursery worker for 8 years, a friend to the Precept teachers by building and installing boards, cabinets or anything else needed. He served on two mission trips to a Native American Bible College in New Mexico. Bob fulfilled the role of handyman for many people in Columbia, easing the way for those who sometimes could not help themselves and he always had a good idea for those who sought his help.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Donna Jim Hilliman of Montana, Michelle Phillips of Columbia, Donald Diane Sweigert of Burbank, IL and Michael Sweigert of San Francisco, CA; his grandchildren, Jamie Phillips and Kristi Phillips; a sister Marilyn Ken Fisher of Ohio.
