Robert Eugene Cothran, age 52, a resident of Baptist Branch Road in Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at home with his family at his bedside.
Funeral services for Mr. Cothran will be conducted Friday at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Bro. Joe Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.
The family will visit with friends from 5:00 – 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday and from 4:00 – 9:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.
The Maury County native was the son of the late Willie Newton Cothran, Sr., and Gladys Pearl Roberts Cothran.
Mr. Cothran attended Hampshire School. He was a dump truck driver and hauled mail for the U.S. Postal Service. He also hauled livestock for the public and enjoyed raising goats and chickens with his family. He also loved to fish and especially spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was of the Baptist Faith.
He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Jenny Gibson Cothran; his children: Robin J.P. Patterson Fogle of Columbia, Jonathan Cothran of Sawdust, Luke and Matt Cothran of Mt. Pleasant and step-daughter: Sarah Chris Bennett of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren: Chesley, Ty, Gracie and Lilly Cothran and their mother, Nancy Cothran, all of Culleoka.
He is also survived by two brothers: Lewis Cothran of Culleoka and Jeff Cothran of Mt. Pleasant; five sisters: Martha Sharp of Mt. Pleasant, Betty David Dyer of Culleoka. Velda Filson of Columbia, Linda Nelson Rhodes of Mt. Pleasant and Helen Bell of Columbia and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Willie Cothran, Jr., Neal Cothran and Johnny Cothran and three sisters: Mildred Kelly, Joyce Spurlock, Sarah Cothran and one nephew, Jason Craig.
Pallbearers will be J.P. Patterson, Chris Bennett, Will Gibson, Eddie Harris, Danny Cothran, Shane Greve and Josh "Egg" Crews. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jon Freels, Dr. Martin Chaney, Dr. Kelley Williams-Snyder, Doctors of the South Central Heart Group, the Medical Oncology Doctors, the Maury Regional Oncology Floor Nurses and the members of the Lewis County High School Panthers football team.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Hospice of the Highland Rim, 1412 Trotwood Avenue, Suite 5, Columbia, TN 38401.
