Mr. Robert Fowler Childress, age 88, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013 at NHC Healthcare in Columbia, Tennessee.
Mr. Childress was the son of the late Roy Childress and the late Bessie Smith Childress. He was born in Maury County, Tennessee on February 20, 1925, and was one of four children. He married the former Ruth Hargrove on September 18, 1943 and they had one daughter together. Their daughter, Dawn notes with both honor and regret that if Robert had remained on earth for a few more months, her parents would have been married for 70 years. Robert is retired from the Wastewater Treatment Department of the City of Columbia and enjoyed farming as well. He was a member of Southgate Church of Christ.
In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his daughter: Dawn Foster; grandchildren: Andrew Foster, Sarah Foster and Benton Foster; brother: Jack (Betty) Childress and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Childress was preceded in death by his sister: Cecile Chupp and his brother: James Childress.
Funeral services for Mr. Childress will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Joe Macer and Bro. Brian Gregory officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Saturday, June 15 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Edward Hargrove, Sonny Hargrove, Mark Childress, Bobby Childress, Michael Hardison and Tim Hardison will serve as pallbearers. Elmer Lusk, Jim Wilson, Jack Craig, Alton Walker, Hubert Connelly, Billy Ray Hardison, as well as Past and Present deacons and elders of Southgate Church of Christ (formerly Eastside Church of Christ) will serve as honorary pallbearers.
