Robert “Bob” Franklin Conner, age 86, of Columbia, Tennessee passed away on September 27, 2018 at his residence in Columbia, Tennessee.
Bob was born on January 8, 1932 to the late John and Mary Lou Conner in Dublin, Maryland. Bob was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He met his wife Lesta “Jay” in Ocean City, Maryland where they both worked for AT&T; they were married in 1958, 60 years. “Popples” was the name given to him by his grandchildren. Bob had an 80-year friendship with Will Kirkwood of Delaware. He enjoyed fishing and travel, his favorite place was the Conowingo Dam in Hardford County, Maryland. He was a Patriotic man, he served in the United States Navy. He was a Boy Scout Leader. He retired from Verizon. Bob was a 33-year member of the American Legion Post 39 in Maryland. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and a current member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbia; he was a dedicated volunteer serving for years at “People’s Table”.
Bob is survived by his wife, Jay Conner; daughter, Terri (Ken) Kahl; granddaughters, Jamie (Nicky Ross) Kahl, Melissa (Jordan) Tombs and sister, Billie Lou Seagle. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will visit with friends on Sunday, September 30, 2018 from noon until 2:00 p.m at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. A service will be held immediately following visitation at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be provided by Herbert E. Griffin American Legion Post 19.
Pallbearers are members and the Honor Guard of American Legion Post 19.
