Robbie “Honey” Nell Hamby, age 84, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at her residence.
Robbie was born on May 15, 1932 was born in Rogersville, Alabama to John H. Joiner and Georgia Gautney Joiner. She was married to James Dalton Hamby for over fifty years until they were separated by his death on September 12, 2004. She was a homemaker who put her family first. Her world especially revolved around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her granddaughter remembers her always saying, “What’s your hurry? Just spend the night with me.” She was also very protective of her family. One of her favorite singers was George Jones and she enjoyed fishing. One of the childhood memories that she would relate, was picking cotton while growing up with other members of her family. Honey was much beloved by her husband, children, grandchildren and friends.
Honey is survived by her children: James Michael (Sharon) Hamby of Thomson Station and Gary (Anita) Hamby of Columbia; grandchildren: Robyn Anderson, Jason Hamby, Kristi Hamby Tomlinson, Brian Hamby and Trevor Hamby; and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Georgia Joiner; husband: James Dalton Hamby; and daughters: Marjorie Lynn Freeman and Ann Hamby.
Funeral services for Honey will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Jim Stoltz officiating. Interment will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. immediately prior to the service at the funeral home.
Jason Hamby, Robert Baugher, Jimmy Tomlinson, Allen Garland, Andrew Garland and Jalen Scott will serve as pallbearers.
