Richard Henry Wilhite entered into eternal rest Tuesday Jan 31, 2017 at Lexington Medical Center in Lexington, South Carolina after a short illness. He was a true man of God who walked by faith. He was a Deacon and song leader of New Hope Baptist Church in Orangeburg, SC.
The family will visit with friends on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at Williams Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Williams Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, Tennessee with Bro. Stephen McCollum officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.
Richard was born November 19, 1946 to the late Emma and Virgil Wilhite Sr. He is preceded in death by one brother, Virgil Wilhite, Jr. He is survived by one brother, David R. Wilhite of Mount Pleasant, Tennessee.
In his early years he proudly served in the US Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville with a degree in forestry. He also received a master’s degree from University of Tennessee Martin in Electrical Engineering. He was employed at Orangeburg Community College in Orangeburg, SC as an electronics professor.
He was a devoted husband and loving father to Brenda K. Wilhite and one son Richard Benjamin Wilhite of Orangeburg, SC and daughter Amy Carsello of Lewisburg, TN and three grandchildren Jonathan Dendy of Shelbyville, TN., Kristen Cashion of Lewisburg, TN and Allie Pressley of Fayetteville, TN and one great granddaughter, Esma.
