Richard Reams Powers

January 5, 1943 — January 9, 2005

Mr. Richard Reams Powers, 62, a resident of Meadow Road in Mt. Pleasant passed away Sunday, January 9, 2005 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Powers will be conducted Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Reverend Emily Barker officiating. Entombment will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late O.B. and Alta Nowlin Powers. He was the husband of Pat Staggs Powers. Mr. Powers was a graduate of Hay Long High School and attended Tennessee Tech for two years. He was a Rural Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service in the Mt. Pleasant area. He was a avid golfer and attended the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Pleasant.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Stephanie Powers of Mt. Pleasant and a son, Dr. R. Reams Carey Powers, Jr. of Columbia, a sister, Sally Powers John Matlack of Columbia; a granddaughter, Margaret Patton Powers of Columbia; two nephews, Mike Margaret Matlack of Dallas TX and Matthew Shannon Matlack of Columbia, Mo; great-niece, Betsy Matlack and great nephew Sam Matlack both of Dallas TX; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Whitwell of Mt. Pleasant and Teressa Eddie Porterfield of Lawrenceville, GA.

Pallbearers will be Bill Scannella, Vance Brummal, Ray Anderson, Gary King, Don Coffey, Wally Couch, Jimmy Curry, Gene Barker, Tidlem McClain, Billy Hollis, Lonnie Daniels, Jerry McNeece, Tom Hardin, Red Lindsey, Jimmy Lott and Dennis Rochelle.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees and former employees of Mt. Pleasant Post Office, former co-workers of Stauffer Chemical Company and members of Mt. Pleasant First Presbyterian Church.
