Richard Lewis Hayes, age 81 of Columbia, passed away at his residence on March 17, 2013.
Richard was born March 29, 1931, to the late Charlyse “Long” Tubman in Logan, West Virginia. As a boy, he loved to race cars. Once old enough, he joined the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War as an OSI in the European Theater. He then went to college for two years. After college, he was employed as a mortgage loan officer. Having the love for cars that he did, Richard also became a car salesman for classic European sports cars. The love was certainly true because that was when he met his sweet wife, Joan, as she was buying herself a MG. Joan couldn’t resist his charm of being such a jokester and always telling stories.
The family will celebrate the life of Richard Lewis Hayes at a later date.
Survivors of Richard include: His wife, Joan “Lockhart” Hayes; His son, Jon Christopher (Dyan) Hayes; His daughter, Kimberlee (Fiancé, Joel Friddell) Hayes; and grandson, Sean Hayes.
