Richard D. Stephenson

January 19, 1939 — March 16, 2004

Mr. Richard D. Stephenson, 65, a resident of Jefferson Drive in Columbia, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Stephenson will be conducted Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the Riverside United Methodist Church with Reverend Ray Newell officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Macedonia Cemetery in Kuttawa, Kentucky. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia.

The Memphis native was the son of the late Joe W. and Estelle Dunevant Stephenson and husband of LaWanda Doom Stephenson of Columbia. He retired as a self-employed draftsman designer and was formerly a contract project engineer for Sverdup of Nashville. He designed several homes and buildings in the Middle Tennessee area. He was an active member of the Riverside United Methodist Church, former member of the Columbia Kiwanis Club, and an avid gardner. He served our country in Korea being in the U.S. Army.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Doug Stephenson of Lanai, HI; a daughter, Kay Jeremy Haywood of Columbia, TN; a sister, Joanne Bobby Conner of Houston, TX; three grandchildren, Kyle Haas, Brittany Haywood, and Jordan Haywood all of Columbia, TN; two sisters-in-law, Ella Stephenson of Memphis, TX and Pam Johnson of Houston, TX; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, David Stephenson and Warren Stephenson; a sister, Sarah Clara Stephenson.

Pallbearers will be Lavon Hooie, M.T. Potts, Cecil Conner, Emory Cole, Clarence Southall, and Tom Hoffman. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jim Hewgley Sunday School Class and men of the Riverside United Methodist Church, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hutto, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sanders.
