Reverend William C. Emmitt

Reverend William C. " Bill" Emmitt, age 84, a resident of South College St. in Mt. Pleasant, passed away Saturday, February 28, at Hidden Acres Health Care.

A Memorial service for Reverend Emmitt will be conducted Tuesday, March 3, at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. J. C. Christian officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Arlington Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Navy.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 P.M. until service time.

Born in Frog Level, Tennessee, he was the son of the late James Campbell Emmitt and Clara Mae Pursley Emmitt. He was the husband of Mary Vernon Judkins Emmitt who passed away in January 2004. Reverend Emmitt was a Southern Baptist minister, also serving as minister of music and as associate pastor. He was very proud of being a hospital corpsman, a survivor of LST-523, and enjoyed playing golf in his leisure time. Reverend Emmitt served our country during World War II in the United States Navy. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant.


He is survived by his children: Jayne Jim Andron of Wayne, PA, William Jonathan "Jon" Emmitt and Kay Suzanne "Suzy" Emmitt both of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: David Emmitt Andron of Los Angeles, CA and Matthew Jamison Andron of Phoenix, AZ; beloved sisters- in- law: Annie Sue McCoy of Galloway, OH and Lois Gerald Stewart of Mechanicsburg, PA; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother, Harold Lloyd Emmitt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Hull, survivors of LST-523 lost in the Normandy Invasion, and the staff of Hidden Acres Health Care.
