Rev. Jackie Henderson Taylor passed away October 3, 2019 at Life Care Center of Columbia surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was born on September 21, 1934 to Garrett and Nadine Taylor in West Tennessee in the small town of Sidonia. He was the youngest of three children. He married Charlene Ingrum June 30, 1956. They moved to Chicago where they lived for a couple of years before he was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Army 3rd Infantry in the Berlin Crisis in 1958 in Germany. After being discharged he and Charlene settled in Middle Tennessee where he has lived since.
He surrendered to the ministry in 1980 at the age of 46. He served as a bi-vocational pastor in many local churches while working as store manager at Price Bass Welding Supplies until his retirement in 1990. He became a full time pastor after that and again served several churches. He retired from Santa Fe Baptist Church in 2006 after serving for 10 years. He and Charlene sold their home in Williamsport where they lived for 33 years. In 2006 they moved to Mt Pleasant to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They rarely missed a sporting event for any of the grandchildren.
After moving to Mt Pleasant he continued to fill in for local churches as needed. Jack was always active in missions. He served with the Tennessee Baptist disaster relief team and spent time in New York following the 9-11 disaster. He has been on 26 local mission trips and 4 international trips. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Mt Pleasant since 2006 serving as a deacon. He served as the city Chaplain in Mt Pleasant for several years and helped the community anyway he could. He received the Judge Ed T. Workman award in 2011 for his service and commitment to the community. He was Chaplain for Truck Stops of America and volunteered for many agencies over the years, especially after retiring.
He is survived by his children: Steven Taylor of Kansas City, Missouri; Lori Ann (Billy) Ring of Mt Pleasant, Mike (Tina) Taylor of Mt Pleasant, and Christie Lynn (Kenny) Waldrum of Mt Pleasant; grandchildren: Taylor (Caitlin) Kaltenbach, Ryan (Vicky) Kaltenbach, Ashley (Kyle) Carrier, Justin Waldrum, Megan (Jimmy) Mash, Garrett (Morgan) Ring, and Kristen (Justice) Taylor; 5 great-grandchildren; sister: Charline Dunlap of Nashville, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife Charlene Ingrum Taylor; and daughter: Jacqueline Carol (Jackie Carol) Taylor; and brother: Larry Taylor.
Services will be at Williams Funeral Home, Mt Pleasant on October 5, 2019 at 1:00 PM with Frank Webb, J.C. Christian and Bucky Rowland officiating. Family will visit with friends on Friday, October 4, 2019 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in Mt Pleasant. Burial to follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

Honorary pallbearers are: Deacons of 1st Baptist Church, Mt Pleasant, Bro. John Rushing, John Bowling, Raybon Kelley, employees of the City of Mt Pleasant, and Masonic Ed Workman Lodge.
