Rebecca Ann Tomlin

Mrs. Rebecca Ann Runions Tomlin, age 71, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at Life Care Center of Columbia.

Mrs. Tomlin born in Columbia, Tennessee was the daughter of the late Maybern Runions and the late Evelyn McKennon Runions on July 5, 1942. She married the love of her life, Doyle Tomlin on July 1, 1960 and they were happily married for 53 years. She worked as a custodian for many years at the Middle Tennessee Experiment Station and she and Doyle lived there on the property for many years. Rebecca was a loving mother to her girls, Kathy and Kim and they have many wonderful memories of her. She also was a wonderful grandmother who doted on her grandbabies.

Doyle says he loved every one of their 53 years together and during that time, no matter what, they told each other, “Goodnight, I love you, see you in the morning” at bedtime. They had a pact they lived by and that was to never go to bed angry with one another.
Rebecca loved fishing, stripping tobacco, collecting salt and pepper shakers and canning fruits and vegetables. Her daughter says that she never met a stranger; and that if she liked you she liked you, but if she didn’t, then just leave her alone. She loved her dog, Zoey. She also loved her church, Acts Family Church.

Mrs. Tomin is survived by her beloved husband, Doyle; daughters: Kathy (Dannie) Chapman and Kim (Jeffery) Tiller; grandchildren: Ashley (Steven) McCandless and Brittany (Randy) Spires; great-grandchildren: Shelby Renee McCandless and William James McCandless; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; brother: Maybern (Sandra) Runions, Jr., sisters: Janie (Beecher) Clark, Linda (James) Williams and Rosanna (Roger) Jones; and sister-in-law: Rosa Tomlin. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her infant brother: James Calvin Runions.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tomlin will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Bro. Tim Paul and Collin McKennon officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey Cemetery in Spring Hill. The family will visit with friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11 at the funeral home.

Calvin Williams, David Williams, Eddie Williams, Thad Runions, Rodney Runions, Larry Bobo, Jimmy Dobbins and Doug Johnson will serve as pallbearers. Members of Acts Family Church will serve as honorary pallbearers and the family would like to give special thanks to the staffs of Life Care Center and Maury Regional Medical Center for their excellent care during Rebecca’s illness. Special thanks also goes out to special friends: Penny Waters, Oma Wilhelm and Betty Cross.
