Reba Shelby Walls

February 19, 1921 — May 6, 2005

Reba O. Walls, beloved mother of Patricia Walls Dr. Norman Saliba of Murfreesboro, E. Gail Walls Wendell Boyd of Hampshire and Troy D. Walls of Columbia, passed away Friday, May 6, 2005, at home with her children at her bedside.

A celebration of life service for Mrs. Walls will be conducted Monday, May 9, 2005, at 2:00 pm, in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. John Rushing, Rev. Mike Shelby and Dr. Norman Saliba officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 to 9:00 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Walls was preceded in death by her husband, Roy A. Walls, and a precious granddaughter, Mary Olevia ?Levy? Boyd. Mrs. Walls was the oldest child of the late WalterH. and Winnie Curry Shelby of Hampshire and Columbia. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Loyd Buddy, Bill, Jimmy, Wayne and Tillie Shelby.

She was the backbone of her family. As a young child she took care of her brothers and sister during her mother?s illnesses. Through the years she was supportive and always available for them. She worked hard and made many sacrifices for her children. She tried to instill in them a strong work ethic, loyalty, compassion for others, honesty, and a belief in God and his Son. She was a charter member of the Northside Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Hampshire High School and Columbia Business School. She retired from Tennessee Farm Bureau in 1970 but chose to start another career with the Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole. She retired this April with over 33 years of service.

In addition to her children, she is survived by seven grandchildren, Shelby P. James Keating of Mt. Juliet, Penelope P. Patrick Shrum of Smyrna, Wendell E. Tina Boyd, Jr. of Hampshire, Johanna A. and Gabrielle W. Saliba of Nashville, Elizabeth S. Craig Hudgens of Murfreesboro and Desta Walls of Columbia; three great grandchildren, Courtnee Olevia Boyd of Hampshire, Olivia C. Keating of Mt. Juliet, and Madison L. Boyd of Hampshire.

Pallbearers will be Jim Renfro, Carlton Thurman, Eddie Boyd, William Clardy, Eugene Holman, Richard Shelby and Jerry Gorhowski. Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin Walls, members of the Leader Sunday School Class of Northside Baptist Church and employees of the Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole in Columbia.
