Raymond Howard Wood

Mr. Raymond Howard Wood, 85 , a resident of 209 Hay Long Avenue in Mt. Pleasant, passed from this life, Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at Maury Regional Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Wood will be conducted Friday, December 16, 2005 at 2:30 pm at the Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Brother Raymond Harville, Muscle Shoals, Alabama and Brother Franklin Williams, Franklin, Tennessee officiating.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 15, 2005 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens.
He was the son of the late Charlie E. Wood and Kate Logue Wood of Mt. Pleasant.
He was the loving husband of 64 years to Ruth P. Wood who preceded him in death on February 18, 2004. He was a member of the Mt. Zion church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant.
He was a dragline operator in the phosphate industry for over 60 years and was also a heavy equipment mechanic during that time. He worked for the M.C. West Mining for a number of years and also for Potts Brothers Mining. He retired from Hall & Knox Mining in 1982 but continued doing work with draglines and bulldozers until 1996.
He was a great Bible teacher having taught Sunday Bible Study, Wednesday night Bible study, Vacation Bible School classes and home study classes in surrounding areas. He was very influential in teaching a numerous number of people and bringing them to Christ. He served as a elder of the Locust Street church of Christ before moving his membership to the Mt. Zion church of Christ where he helped with the work there.
He was known as the ?Pecan Pie Man?. He baked pecan pies and took them to his friends who had lost loved ones and to friends who were celebrating a birthday. He even gave them to people just because they were friends. He loved doing things for other people.
Survivors are two daughters, Ann Dalton Cole and Linda Ray Wood both of Mt. Pleasant, TN; three grandchildren, Tammy Scharrer of Columbia, TN, Tony Cole of Mt. Pleasant, TN and Terry Amanda Cole of Spring Hill, TN; six great grandchildren, Allison Stephen Powell and Andrew Scharrer both of Mt. Pleasant, TN, Whitney Scharrer of Columbia, TN, Trevor Cole, Taylor Cole and T.J. Cole all of Spring Hill, TN; two sisters, Audrey Nichols and Martha Milan both of Mt. Pleasant, TN; two brothers, Louis Wood and Harold Kitty Wood both of Mt. Pleasant, TN; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Charlene Shepherd of Florence, Alabama and Lora Mae Yocum of Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
Pallbearers are Tony Cole, Terry Cole, Andrew Scharrer, Robert Wood, Gaylon Wood, Mark Hayes, Steve Hayes, and Bill Yocum.
Honorary pallbearers are Claude Brawner, Charles ?Spud? Crotzer, Wayne Craig, Tillman Knox, Jeff Knox and the men of Mt. Zion church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant.
