Mr. Ray Hood, 78, resident of Scribner Avenue of Columbia, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Life Care Center.

Born April 4, 1933 in Maury County, Tennessee and was the son of the late Fred and Hildred Willis Hood and the husband of the late Oma Mae Watkins Hood. He was retired from TVA in Brown's Ferry in Alabama as an Engineer Assistant. Ray loved raising tomatoes and vegetables in his garden. The last 10 years, Ray was the owner and operator of Hood's Sewer and Drain Cleaning Services. Ray served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Mr. Hood is survived by a daughter and a son: Carolyn Hood and Alan Hood of Columbia; a grandson: Thomas Ray Joy Hood of Columbia; three great-grandchildren: Maria, Ethan, and Owen Hood of Columbia; two sisters: Emma Jean Lanius and Nancy Gray of Columbia and one brother: Gary Hood of Columbia. He was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Buford, Donald and Paul Hood.

Funeral services for Mr. Hood will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday at the Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rick Points and Thomas Ray Hood officiating. Burial will follow in the Sylone Cemetery in Elkmont, Alabama with military honors provided by the United States Army.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be family members and friends of the family.
