Ray Leon Floyd, age 83, a long time resident of Mt. Pleasant, TN passed away Friday, March 8th.
Ray has held many positions over the years including county commissioner, election commission, and chairman of the board at his church. Out of all the many positions he held his family business “Floyd and Floyd Contractors”, closest to his heart for over 40 years where he served as owner and operator. Ray while retired was still very active. He spent time fishing, gardening, farming, as well as working his team of mules “Kate and Emma.” He was a member of the Porters Chapel Methodist Church.
Mr. Floyd is survived by his wife of many years, Thelma Grooms Floyd. One son: Mike Floyd of Columbia; One daughter: Shirley Floyd Norman of Mt. Pleasant; Three grandchildren: Amy (Albert) Rich, Holly (Neil) Walker, and Casey Floyd; Great –grandchildren: Grace Norman, Ali Walker, Ryder Floyd and Paul Thomas Walker; Two Brothers: Bobby (Joyce) Floyd and David (Gwen) Floyd. One sister: Jackie (Jack) Zenik. He was preceded in death by Sara Gail Floyd, Betty Buchanan, Elizabeth Floyd Lynn, Jim Floyd, Preston Floyd and William Floyd Jr.
Funeral services for Ray will be held Monday, March 11th beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Williams Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Chapel. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 10th from 3:00-8:00 p.m. also in the Williams Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Chapel. Rev. Bobby Gobble will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers for Mr. Floyd will be Casey Floyd, Albert Rich, Mike Greene, Van Boshers, James Walker, Gary Joe King, William Massey, Ronnie Wiseman. Honorary Pallbearers: Charlie Tisher, Bobby Sands, Jimmy Brown, Bill Reed, James B. Kelley, Dr. Robert Bain, Bill Ray, Jeff Reed, Frank Pasch, Billy Benefield, Lewis Bumpus, Earl Hayes, Mike Bolton, Jerry Turner and J.B. Napier. The members of Porters Chapel Church, past and present employees of Floyd & Floyd Contractors. Special thanks to Lifecare Center- ASU, Third West at Maury Regional Medical Center. The family request that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
