Mrs. Rachel Simmons, age 92, a resident of Columbia, passed away September 22 at her residence.
Born March 16, 1918 in Ft. Cobb, OK, she was the daughter of the late George and Ethel Moore Pierce and wife of the late Claude A. Simmons. Mrs. Simmons held a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma College for Women and was a music teacher for the Knoxville City School System. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbia. She was a kind and wonderful mother, excellent teacher and she encouraged her family and many students to pursue their musical interests.
Mrs. Simmons is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Stephen and Jane Simmons of Columbia; her grandchildren: Whitney Claire Brad Wormer of Franklin, Clark Holman Simmons of Nashville, Dr Leigh Holman Simmons of Boston, MA, Michael Grooms of Albuquerque, MN and David Grooms of Denver, CO.; great grandchildren: Harper and Henry Grooms, both of Denver, Co; nieces: Jennifer Swannigan of Golden, CO and Debbie Fulleton of Bermuda Dunes, CA; nephew: David Horton of Mission Viejo, CA.
A memorial service for Mrs. Simmons will conducted at a later date in Denver, Colorado.
Williams Funeral Home of Columbia is assisting the family with the arrangements.
