Rachel Oliver Beard

Mrs. Rachel Oliver Beard, 92, resident of Sunset Avenue in Columbia, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Cottontown, TN.
Born January 13, 1919 in Maury County, daughter of the late William J. and Grace Dugger Oliver and wife of the late Clarence R. Beard. In her early years, she worked odd jobs to help her husband. She continued to mow her own yard until she was 85. Then at the age of 88, she gave up driving and sold her car. She attended Highland Ave. Church of Christ, where she and her husband, an elder, were members for 35 years.
Survivors include her daughter: Zendy Timothy Harvey of Cottontown, TN; brother: Charles Margaret Oliver of Hampshire; sister: Laverne Woods of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: James and Matthew Harvey, both of Nashville; special nephew: Mark Hardy; several other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Odel and Edward Oliver, Evelyn Crews and Doradean Hardy.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Beard will be held 11:00 AM Saturday in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Curtis Dowdy and Curtis Flowers officiating. Burial will follow in the Arlington Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
The family will receive friends Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be James Harvey, Matt Harvey, Mark Hardy, Tim Harvey, John Tomaszewski and Tracy Wilkins. Honorary pallbearers will be her very special sitters: Susan Ford and Jane Scarberry and the Highland Ave. Church of Christ Birthday Club.
