Mrs. Rachel O. McDowell, went home to be with the Lord early Friday morning, Nov. 28. She was the wife of Robert Mac McDowell of Columbia. They were married in 2002 after each losing a spouse to Alzheimer's disease.
A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, December 3, at 1:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church on the Pulaski Hwy. Williams Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangement.
Born in Muncie, IN, she was the daughter of Shafer Oren and Louine Carmen Oren. Mrs. McDowell lived in Columbia since 1999 and was a member of First Baptist Church in which she and her husband were very active. Rachel and Robert were volunteers at Maury Regional Hospital. They also ran an antique and novelty booth in downtown Columbia consignment shop.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Don Tobey of Dunnellon, FL, a daughter, Mrs. Michal Ann Scudder of Columbia, and a son, Jeffery Tobey of Columbus, OH. She has seven grandchildren, Laura Wheeler of Nashville, Joe Luttman of Nashville, Carolyn Banister of Columbia, S.C., Sarah Rufenacht of Atlanta, GA, David Tobey of Austin, TX, Emily Tobey of Georgetown, TX and David Tobey of Columbus, OH. She has seven great-grandchildren; two step-children: Steve McDowell of Spring Hill and Linda Ann Young of Euless, TX; step grandchildren: Brooke Goatz, Brian McDowell and Blake McDowell all of Columbia, and Jakob Young of Euless, TX and four step-great-grandchildren
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 2790 Pulaski Hwy, Columbia, TN 38401.
