Paul Varner

September 16, 1916 — January 13, 2003

Mr. Paul "Whitey" Varner , 86, a resident of Spring Ave. S.W. in Decatur, Alabama and formerly of Greely Dr. in Columbia died Monday, January 13, 2003 in Decatur.

Funeral services for Mr. Varner will be conducted Thursday, January 16, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Williams Columbia Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Gardner officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors being provided by Herbert Griffin Ameican Legion Post # 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Lisbon, Ohio native was the son of late Harvey Varner and the husband of the late Dorothy Murrell Varner who died June 8, 1981. He was retired from Union Carbide Corporation as a foreman. He was a member of Craft Memorial United Methodist Church and also worked with the Church Youth Fellowship at the church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason.

He is survived one son, Paul S. Donna Mayse Varner of Alabama; one brother, Robert Varner of Wellsville, Ohio.

He is preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Janifee; three brothers, Lester, Dean and John W. "Bill" Varner.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Honorary pallbearers will be former employees of Union Carbide and members of the Maury County Red Cross.
