Paul "Ray" Raymond Guthrie

Paul Raymond “Ray” Guthrie, age 55, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2015 at his home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee after fighting a courageous battle with melanoma cancer, “The Beast”.

Ray was born on June 1, 1960 in Lawrence County, Tennessee to Marie Guthrie Waldrop and the late Paul C. Guthrie. Ray married Arlene Workman on July 25, 1980. They just celebrated their thirty-fifth wedding anniversary. Ray enjoyed custom woodworking. He loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of Spencer Hill Church of Christ. Ray enjoyed watching sports. He was a Braves fan, but his heart belonged to the UT Volunteers. He was a Vols fan for Life. Go Big Orange! Ray loved to attend Vols games. He recently was able to meet Butch Jones at one of the football games.

The family will visit with friends on Sunday, November 8, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Ricky Frazier and Andy Pogue officiating. Burial will follow at Freedom Cemetery.

Ray is survived by his wife Arlene Guthrie of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee; daughter Candace Guthrie of Mt. Pleasant; son Rory (Carrie) Guthrie of Gardendale, Alabama; grandchildren Tevin Guthrie of Mt. Pleasant, Lola Duberry, and Emma Guthrie; mother Marie Waldrop of Mt. Pleasant; brother Mike (Kathy) Guthrie of Mt. Pleasant; sisters Sheila Hickman of Mt. Pleasant and Kay (David) Lott of Mt. Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Rory Guthrie, Curtis Guthrie, Steve Kelley, Jeremy Finley, Ollie Amos, and Clyde Fields.

Honorary pallbearers are Joe Gambrell, Timmy Sims, Kenny McKennon, Gary Benefield, George Workman, Michael Woodard, and the Class of 1978.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family.
