Mr. Paul Leo Burns, age 79, of Summertown, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at his residence.
Paul was born on February 10, 1936 in Ethridge, Tennessee to Oscar H. Burns and Alice Kirk Burns. He married his loving wife, Norma Tucker Burns, on April 5, 1959 and they had five children together. He served honorably in the United States Military from 1954 until 1959.
Paul was a proud member of the Pipeliners Local Union 798, having worked from the east to the west coast and from Mexico to Alaska. He also was a 3rd degree master mason and a member of the Ethridge Lodge # 777 of Free and Accepted Masons. Additionally, he was a ten year member of the Ethridge Eastern Star. Paul left behind many dear friends that were very special to him.
Mr. Burns is survived by his wife: Norma Tucker Burns of Summertown, TN; children: Terri (Donny) Story of Lawrenceburg, TN, Phillip (Brenda) Burns of Summertown, TN and Lisa (Jim) Hammond of Columbia, TN; grandchildren: Aaron (Keely) and Kacy Story, Brittany and Marshall Burns and Grace and Gretta Hammond; six great-grandchildren; and brother: James Dwight Burns of Ethridge, TN. He was preceded in death by his infant sons, Anthony and David Burns; parents, Oscar H. Burns and Alice Kirk Burns; and his sister, Hazel Pullen Merritt.
Funeral services for Paul will be held on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Milton Hicks and Ricky Cox officiating. Burial will follow at John Lay Cemetery in Ethridge. The family will visit with friends at Williams Funeral Home on Sunday, March 1, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Aaron Story, Marshall Burns, John Lynch, Clarence Pope, Chris Hunter, Larry Burns, David H. Wiley, Ellis “Buddy” Pullen, and Mike Johns will serve as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Carl Darnell, John “Dropout” Wilson, Bobby Ambrose, Harvey Kirk, Joe White, Charles Peters, Walker Rose, Delton Rosson, and his “CHIEF PALLBEARER” Doyle Perry.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Park Grove Baptist Church.
