Ophelia "Granny" Slaughter

Wilma Ophelia Slaughter, age 83 of Columbia, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Signature Healthcare.

Mrs. Slaughter was born December 28, 1929 in Maury County, Tennessee to the late Moody and Mary Fitzgerald. She was the wife of Alfred Slaughter who passed away in 2003. Working as a nursing tech, she cared for many people over the years at NHC. Granny, as she was known by all of her friends and family, was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

The family will gather with friends Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. Services will be conducted Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home with Bro. Mylen Coble and the burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens.

She is survived by her daughters: Sheila K Clark of Santa Fe, Patsy (Ray) Owens Santa Fe, and Dell (Ricky) Jones of Columbia; grandchildren: Steve (Karen) Clark, Chris (Kristin) Clark, Tim Owens, Christy Owens, Brandon Ring, Misty (Jacob) Love, and Hilary Duncan; 15 great grandchildren and her sister: Betty Lee. She is preceded in death by her brother Jimmy Fitzgerald and her sister Dell Taylor.

Pallbearers will be Steve Clark, Chris Clark, John Duncan, Danny Slaughter, David Slaughter, and Tim Owens. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brandon Ring, Bradley Love, and all of her great grandkids.
