Mrs. Opal Virginia Thigpen Mayberry, 77, widow of Wallace C. ?Buddy? Mayberry, Jr., died Thursday, February 3, 2005 at her residence in Columbia.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mayberry will be conducted Sunday, February 6, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Andy Brown, Wendell Robinson and Don Mayberry officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 4:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Born in Killen, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late William Clinton and Idella McGee Thigpen. She was a retired seamstress for Publix Shirt Factory and a member of Graymere Church of Christ.
She is survived by a son, Donald C. Linda Mayberry of Smyrna, TN; a daughter, Suzanne M. Carlton Scott of Columbia; four grandchildren, Stacey M. Rob Huey of Lewisburg, Lorie Mayberry of Hermitage, Jessica Scott and Hunter Scott, both of Columbia; a great grandchild, Alex Huey of Lewisburg; a great grandchild to be, Sydney Kate Huey; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Jack Wesley and Mrs. Lucy Anne Goode, both of Lawrenceburg and Mrs. Elba Priest of Columbia. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mrs. Artie Treptau, Mrs. Ora Young, Mrs. Eva Poland and Mrs. Elizabeth Slagle. She will also be dearly missed by several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Walters, Mike Frakes, Daniel Goad, Danny Poland, Gary Poland and Tommy Ray Mayberry. Honorary pallbearers will be past TLC Caregivers of Centerville, TN.
