Normalan (Bud) Young, Chief Petty Officer, U.S. Navy, Retired, age 85, of Lawrenceburg, TN, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Bud was born on January 19, 1939, to the late Norman Edward Young and Clara Alene Dye Young in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.

Bud was a 1957 Graduate of Lawrence County High School in Lawrenceburg, TN where he lettered in football, baseball and basketball. After high school he enlisted in the TN National Guard and then served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 until 1979. He also worked as a Civilian contractor with the Navy until his final retirement after 35 years of service in 1995. He continued his education between his Navy enlistments and his Civilian service and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology from the Trident Technical College and an Electronics Technician diploma from the State of Tennessee Board for Vocational Education. During his time with the Navy and his Civilian Service Bud received numerous awards and letters of appreciation for a job well done from many Commanders and Admirals.

Bud loved to bowl and to golf in his later years but loved sports of all kinds. He and his wife lived in multiple locations during his naval career, and they were fortunate enough to be able to travel extensively over their almost 59 years of marriage.

He was known for his staunch adherence to routine and order but was also fun loving and cared deeply for family. He encouraged his nieces and nephews to always continue to learn and better themselves and will always be remembered for his devotion to values of hard work and dedication to self-improvement.

Bud is survived by his wife, Assunta “Susie” Castaldo Young, from Pozzouli, Italy. He is also survived by one sister, Mamie Johnson of Pulaski, nieces Patti McFall (Johnny/Lawrenceburg), Penni Johnson (Lawrenceburg), Beverly Peterson (Roger/Summertown), Lita Johnson (Cory/Pulaski), Sue Brown (Steve/Lawrenceburg), Connie Chandler (Danny/Leoma), Tracy Holt (Manson/Lawrenceburg) and nephews Chris Young (Erin/Spring Hill), Tim Young (Amanda/Columbia), and Jeremey Young (Lawrenceburg), 19 great-nieces and great-nephews and 26 great-great nieces and nephews, his wife’s nephew Alessandro Rettura (Loredana) of Los Angeles, CA and her niece Barbara Rettura of Italy and 18 other nieces and nephews in Italy. He is also survived by two cousins, Frances Jones (Jerry) and Macy Price (Freddie).

Bud was preceded in death by four siblings, Betty McFall, James (Jimmy) Young, Barbara Young Knapp, and Gene Young.

A memorial service will be held at the Elks Lodge located at 615 Crews Street, Lawrenceburg, TN on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers you are encouraged to make a donation to the charity of your choice in Memory of Bud Young.
