Norma Tucker Burns, entered happily into the ever after, with our Lord on Saturday morning, July 8, 2023.
The mother of Terri, Phillip, and Lisa passed away while surrounded by her daughters after a very long battle with vascular dementia. Unless you knew our mother you cannot understand the sadness this really is. She was the person to never forget a name or date. She was 87 years old.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Paul Burns. Her son Phillip and two infant sons; Anthony and David.
She was the last surviving child of Lonnie and Naomi, and the final survivor of siblings and their spouses; Helen (John) Vacha, Lois (Brownie) Holloway, Jimmy (Virginia) Tucker, Josephine (Norman) Psota, Mac (Dorothy) Tucker, Mary (John) Blue, Ernest (Verlie) Tucker, Catherine Tucker, Danise (Bobby) Fisher; and brother-in-law: James D. Burns.
Norma graduated from Summertown High School. She was employed with Wagster Drugs in Columbia, then later worked at Bellsouth in Nashville. She then moved back to Lawrence County and took employment with Willis Studio in Lawrenceburg. She was a member of the Historical Society and a founding member of the Summertown High School Alumni Association.
She then married and built a family with Paul. She was a born-again Christian and a long-time member of Summertown Baptist Church. She was a devoted member of Eastern Star of Ethridge TN. She volunteered in her church, often sang solos in earlier years and played piano, if they couldn’t find anyone else. She was an avid gardener and cook, whether by choice or not. She was a great cook, often hosting a fish fry or family reunions.
