Nora Marshall King

September 8, 1915 — March 6, 2012

Nora Marshall King, age 96, life time resident of the Mt. Joy Community, passed away on March 6, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Dwight Liles, Rev. Frank Webb and Rev. Bob Mullenix officiating. Burial will follow in the Bailey Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Thursday, March 8, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.

Born in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Edward Allen and Lucy Nevills Marshall. She was the wife of the late Clifford King, Sr. of Mt. Pleasant. They were married for 61 years prior to Mr. King passing away. Mrs. King was the oldest member of Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church and had also been a member longer than anyone else in the congregation, having attended and been a member there since her birth. She was also a member of the CPW at the church. Her family remembers that she loved to garden and work in the yard.

Mrs. Nora King is survived by five children: Herman Jean King, Carolyn Mathis, Betty McNeece, Clifford Becky King, Jr., and Alisa Alfred Edwards, all of Mt. Pleasant; one brother: Edward Allen Margaret Marshall of Nashville; sisters in law: Ruth Hermas Jones of Athens, AL, Wilma King of Mt. Pleasant, TN and Juanita King of Hohenwald, TN; ten grandchildren: Jeffery Carol King, Greg Michelle King, Carol Barney Burns, Karen Rusty Dodson, Brian Shaun McNeece, Bradly Kelly McNeece, Kelly Dale Hughes, Seth Jessica Brown, Stephen Brown and Christopher Brown; great-grandchildren: Kyle King, Colleen King, Matthew Cassie Burns, Benjamin Burns, Nathan Burns, Jimmy Dodson, Brett Stephanie Dodson, Chuck Dodson, Meagan McNeece, Maddy McNeece, Hannah McNeece, Reagan McNeece, and Corey Hughes; great-great-grandchildren: Makaela Dodson and Layla Davis. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Clement Marshall, William Marshall and Marion Marshall; two sisters: Sudie Collins and Pearl Hooten; two infant siblings: Ada Marshall and Floyd Marshall; and three sons in law: Bruce Ray McNeece, Norris Nixon and Billy Walker Mathis.

Mrs. King's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church and her caregivers at Hospice Compassus: Emma Thrasher, Michelle Lovett and Lucy McKinney.
