Newton N.J. Stanford

Mr. Newton Jordan Stanford, 96, a retired farmer of the Carter's Creek Community, died Sunday, June 8, 2003.

Funeral services for Mr. Stanford will be conducted Monday, June 9, 2003 at 2:30 P.M. at the North View Church of Christ, with Carl May and Wayne Hardison officiating. Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at the Williams Columbia Funeral Home and Monday from 1:30 until service time at the church.

The Rutherford County native was the son of the late John Henry and Fannie Belle Jordan Stanford. Mr. Stanford was a graduate of Eagleville High School and received a Masters Degree in Agriculture from the University of Tennessee, where he was a member of the Alpha Zeta Honorary Fraternity. He served as an extension agent in West Tennessee and as Farm Management Specialist for the state of Tennessee and the Federal Government, a position that he resigned from to be near his farm in Maury County. He served as secretary of the Columbia Production Credit Association. He was an incorporating director of the Maury Farmers Co-operative, Maury Farm Bureau member, and most important to him and his family, a member of North View Church of Christ, where he served as an elder for twenty-two and a half years.

Mr. Stanford is survived by two daughters, Nina S. Hausmann of Columbia and Suzanne Charles Gunter of Johnson City, TN; three sisters - Cornelia Sewell Lowe of Franklin, TN, Geneva Laws of Fayettville, TN, and Louise Skidmore of Alabama; two grandsons and three granddaughters - Ramonda Chad Scott of Jackson, TN, David Gunter of Johnson City, TN, Dr. Jim Tammy Hausmann of Nashville, TN, Nina Troy Massey of Franklin, TN, and Emily Thaddaeus Hill of Riverhead, NY; three great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters - Graham and Campbell Scott, Anna, Alyssa, and Amellia Hausmann, and Kaela and Cole Massey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Nina Hardison Stanford. Mrs. Stanford passed away on December 7, 2002.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Hardison, Joe Roberson, Jimmy Damron, Paul Ellis, Everett Lowe, Al May, Randell Rummage and Billy Glynne Rummage.

Honorary Pallbearers will be James Stanford Hausmann, David Gunter, Charles Gunter, Troy Massey, Chad Scott, Thaddaeus Hill, Homer Jakes, the Elders and Deacons of North View Church of Christ, Mike Greene, Sewell Lowe, Bill Tankersley, Monroe McMeen, Russell Sparkman, Clint Damron, Morton Damron, Cecil Duncan, Tommy Duncan, Dr. Timothy Gordan, Tommy Bassham, Michael May, Bobby Williams, and the former and current employees of Maury Farmers Co-op.
