Mr. Newlon Lee Meadows, Jr., 77, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at his residence on Edgewood Drive in Mt. Pleasant.
A memorial service for Mr. Meadows will be conducted Friday, May 14, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant with Reverend Phillip Wright officiating. The family will visit with friends Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant is in charge of the arrangements.
The Steel, Missouri native was the son of the late Newlon Lee, Sr. and Annie Jane Wade Meadows and was the husband of Nell Edwards Meadows of Mt. Pleasant. He was a retired train master for the Illinois Central Railroad and served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. He served as city Commissioner for the City of Mt. Pleasant for several years. He was a Mason, a Shriner, and member of the Mt. Pleasant American Legion Post # 10. He was active for many years in the affairs of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Christina Eugene McCary of Monterey, LA and Jane Jeff Brackett of Newton, IL; a son, Newlon Lee Meadows, III of Chatham, IL; a sister, Betty Fuqua of Milan, TN; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lu Wagster.
