Nellie Sue Mcknight

Mrs. Nellie Sue McKnight, age 88, a long time resident of Greenwood Street in Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Monday, January 18, at Life Care Center.

Funeral services for Mrs. McKnight will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Randy Kersey and Jeremy Butt officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4:00 – 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Born on September 30, 1921 in Lewis County, she was the daughter of the late Melvin Brown and Olive Goodman Brown. Mrs. McKnight was the wife of the late Robert Love "Bob" McKnight, Sr. She was always a homemaker which was a full time job, being the mother of eight children. She baby-sat for a number of families throughout the years. She loved raising flowers and going fishing. Mrs. McKnight was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ in Mt. Pleasant for over 40 years and taught preschool classes. Over the last few years even though she had lost her eyesight she had found a new passion for stringing beads.

Survivors include her eight children: Retha Doug Wood of Mt. Pleasant, Laura Williams of Columbia, Robert 'Bud" Judy McKnight of Hohenwald, Roland Mary Ann McKnight of Mt. Pleasant, Jerry Mary Ella McKnight of Mt. Pleasant, Carolyn Gene Craig of Mt. Pleasant, Cathy Jimmy Andrews of White Bluff and Mike Renee' McKnight of Kingston Springs; grandchildren: Jim Cornellia Wood, Julie Lott, Mark Sidney Williams, Tammy Wesley Dodd, Bobby Mary Beth McKnight, Billy McKnight, Shane McKnight, Eric McKnight, Kim Jay Baker, Heath Kim McKnight, Tonya Harris, Andy Emily Craig, Vicki Runions, Alana Fowler, Sam Andrea Fowler, Kristin Bubba Allen and Tatum McKnight; 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

The family has requested that memorial donations be made to Vanderbilt Eye Institute, 2311 Pierce Avenue, Nashville, TN 37232 or vanderbilteyeinstitute@vanderbilt.edu .

Pallbearers will be grandsons Billy McKnight, Shane McKnight, Eric McKnight, Mark Williams, Heath McKnight, Andy Craig, Sam Fowler and Justin Robinette. Honorary pallbearers will be a helpful friend Zelma Jarrad, Karen Moon and other staff of The Bridge and members of the Main Street Church of Christ.
