Nell Rogers Scannella

August 5, 1921 — August 14, 2016

Nell Rogers Scannella died Sunday, August 14, 2016 after a prolonged stay at NHC Hillview.

She was born August 5, 1921 at Prairie, Mississippi and was a decedent of two Jackson County, Tennessee Revolutionary War soldiers. She attended Baxter Seminary at Baxter, Tennessee until 1936. She graduated from Haylong High School in 1939. Later in life, after raising a family, she enrolled at MTSU receiving a Master's Degree.

Nell taught in Mt. Pleasant schools till her retirement. Most of Mt. Pleasant was in Mrs. Scannella's 6th grade class.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant and a life member of Methodist Women's Division of Christian Service. Additionally, she was the President of UMW for eleven years. She was a member of Eastern Star for fifty years.

She was preceded in death by Joe Scannella, Jr.

Nell is survived by two sons: Joe R. (Pamela) Scannella of Knoxville and Bill (Margaret) Scannella of Giles County; grandchildren: Leah (Donald) Rawson, Meredith Scannella, Leslie (Greg) Machen and Robin(Jamie) Quinn; great-grandchildren: Jacob and Olivia Rawson and Ashley (Chris) Stephenson; and great-great grandchildren: Bryce and Brooke Stephenson; nieces and nephews; and her dear friend: Susie Boshers.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Cummins Couch and the staff at NHC Hillview.

A private graveside service will be held for Mrs. Scannella on Wednesday, August 17th at Polk Memorial Gardens with Rev. Tom Spelling officiating.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant at 202 S. Main Street, Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee 38474.
