Neil Oliver Chamberlain, M. D. was born on November 9, 1931 in Selma, California and passed away on October 10, 2013 in Columbia, Tennessee.
He came from humble beginnings, but worked hard to rise above the challenges placed before him. He graduated from Fresno State University in 1953 and then went on to graduate from the 1957 class of UCLA Medical School. He was one of the first graduating urology residents from Vanderbilt University in 1961 and completed his training at Harbor General Hospital in Los Angeles, California.
Dr. Chamberlain practiced urology in Southern California for forty years. He dedicated himself to his patients and devoted many years to teaching residents at UC Irvine in California. He completed the last eight years of his long and successful career in Columbia, Tennessee, in order to be close to his youngest grandchildren.
Dr. Chamberlain is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; his sister, Deon Ferguson; his five children, Matthew (Barbara) Chamberlain, Andrew (Tony) Chamberlain, Tamera Marcus, Teri Harris and Dr. Tiffany (Todd) Hill; his adoring grandchildren, David (Caitlin) Marcus, Jacquie (Drew) Borne, Joshua Chamberlain, Tyler (Sara Beth) Borne, Richard Harris, Natalie Harris, Andrew Landon, Olivia Landon, Bradley Landon, Katherine Hill, Joshua Hill and two great-grandchildren, Zackary Borne and Ian Borne.
Funeral services for Dr. Neil Chamberlain will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, October 15 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Elder Gary Hill will officiate the celebration of his life.
