Nancy Jane Shirley, age 75, passed away June 28th, 2013 in Nashville, TN

Jane was born September 13, 1938, in Nashville, TN to parents late McBroom Shirley and late Ruby Murphy Shirley. Jane’s family moved to Mt. Pleasant, TN in 1939. Jane shined as an outstanding basketball player at Hay Long High School, and graduated in 1956. She then attended the University of Tennessee Knoxville, where she received her degree in Journalism from the College of Communications in 1960. She immediately began working at WSIX Radio and TV station. She then relocated to New England with Control Data and later retired from Colonial Cablevision in Boston, MA. She worked with Sullivan & Clark Attorneys at Law until moving back to Nashville in 2008. Jane was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority, American Women in Radio & Television, and the Association of American University Women. Jane was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church.

A memorial service for Jane will be held Tuesday, July 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church at 3701 Hillsboro Rd. Nashville, TN. Rev. Libby Baxter is officiating. The family will visit with friends one hour before the service. A graveside will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbia, TN at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. Tommy Vann officiating.

Jane is survived by: Sister; Anne Bumpus (Jones), Brother; Mac Shirley (Rubie), Nieces; Jane Anne Bumpus, Jennifer S. Bamford, and Liz Shirley, Nephews; Jim (Valerie) Bumpus, Chris Shirley, Marshall (Kelly) Shirley, Great Nieces; Reese Madison Bamford, and Hallie B Shirley, Great Nephews; Jimmy (Amy) Bumpus, and Drew Bumpus, and Great Great Niece; Kaylee Grace Bumpus.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church at 3701 Hillsboro Rd. Nashville, TN, or to First United Methodist Church at 202 S. Main St. Mt. Pleasant, TN.
