Nancy J. Dickens

December 23, 1940 — August 21, 2008

Nancy J. Dickens, age 67, resident of Beckum Hollow Road in Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Thursday, August 21, in Maury Regional Hospital.

Graveside services for Ms. Dickens will be conducted Sunday at 3:30 P.M. at Polk Memorial Gardens with Rev. Phillip Wright and Rev. Danny Lassiter officiating.

Williams Funeral Home in Columbia is in charge of arrangements.

The Andalusia, AL native was the daughter of the late John Lester Baggett and Hazel Harris Baggett. She graduated from high school in Ft. Walton Beach, FL and worked for 32 years in the cafeteria at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School.

Survivors include her children: Margot Mike Penrod, Stanley Dickens, Kerry Terri Dickens and Scott Michelle Dickens, all of Columbia grandchildren: Cody Hunter Penrod, Morgan Paige Penrod, Sydney Grey Dickens, Maggie Ann Dickens, Ben Aubrey Dickens and Avery Elizabeth Dickens, all of Columbia; one sister-in-law: Annette Baggett of Huntsville, AL

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father: Harry Kirby, one brother: Maj. Gen. John Aubrey Baggett and one sister: Dorothy Busby.

Pallbearers will be Cody Penrod, Mike Penrod, Sam DuBois, Ben Dickens, Tom DuBois and Ryan DuBois.

Honorary pallbearers will be friends and co-workers at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School Cafeteria and Mt. Pleasant Elementary School, Dr. Cummins Couch, her caregiver Tammy Ingram, James and Beth DuBois, the wonderful nurses in the Intensive Care unit at Maury Regional and the Skilled Nursing Unit. A special thank you to Drs. Erik Iverson, Dr. Tom Quinn, Dr. Jon Freehls, the doctors of Maury Regional Cancer Center, special nurses Shaun Payne, Paula Renfro, Hospice nurse Pam Wright.

In lieu of flowers, Ms. Dickens requested that memorials may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Elementary School, 600 North Locust Street, Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474.
