Mirl Grooms, age 89, of Summertown, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Grooms was born on September 21, 1924 to the late Grady Groom and Lova Mae Hensley in Flatwoods, Tennessee. Mirl married Mary Reda Howell in December 1974. He was a retired maintenance worker in Alabama. He was a member of Freedom Church of Christ in Summertown, Tennessee.
The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Freedom Church of Christ. Mirl’s life will be celebrated at Freedom Church of Christ on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. with Jeff Waldrop, Jeff Smith, and Shaun Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Freedom Cemetery in Summertown, Tennessee.
Mirl is survived by his loving wife Mary Reda Grooms; daughter Janice Price; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; stepson Odie Duncan; brothers Joe Groom of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Jack Groom of Linden, Tennessee; sister Mottie Skelton of Flatwoods, Tennessee; one stepdaughter Ann Mabry; four step-grandchildren; and eleven step-great-grandchildren.
Mirl is preceded in death by his parents Grady Groom and Lova Mae Hensley Groom.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Mabry Jr., Luke Jones, Ben Bush, Jimmy Hyatt, Hunter Jones, and Bob Cummins.
Honorary Pallbearers are the men of Freedom Church of Christ.
