Minnie Ruth Cox Chance, age 86, passed away June 25th, 2021, at her home from an extended illness. She was born on June 21st, 1935, and raised in Five Points, Tennessee in Lawrence County by her parents William Franklin Cox and Ethel May Cox.
Ruth attended Loretto High School where she met her husband, Bobby R. Chance, of 67 years. Later they made Columbia, Tennessee their home, where she attended Pleasant Heights Baptist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed her Sunday School class, singing in the choir, and was a former Sunday School teacher. She also enjoyed working with her beloved customers at Merle Norman Studio for many years.
The most wonderful joys of her life were her nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A big smile would cross her face every time she heard or spoke of them. She had a special love for life and her beautiful smile and loving personality will be remembered by all.
The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, June 27th, 2021 in the Chapel at Williams Funeral Home from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A service for Ruth will be held Monday, June 28th at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church with Bro. Bob Vassar officiating. Burial will follow at the Garden of Mark in Polk Memorial Gardens.
Ruth is preceded in death by her son, Alan Scott Chance; her parents: William Franklin Cox and Ethel Mae Cox; her brothers: William Franklin Cox Jr., Presley Leo Cox; and her sister: Anne Marie Cox.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby R. Chance; son: Tim (Angela) Chance; daughter: Jackie Chance (Doug) Howe; nine grandchildren: Hayes Chance, Anna Kate Chance, Jackson Chance, Caroline Chance, Matt Mangrum, Chance (Katie) Howe, Lauren Howe (Nathan) Perry, Ben Chance, and Brooke Chance; two great-grandchildren: Wyatt Perry and Caroline Perry; and sister: Jo Ann (Hubert) Cleveland; and daughter-in-law: Lindsey Chance.
The family would love to give a special thanks to Hospice Compassus and their tireless caregivers, Paige and Lisa for their thoughtful care of "Minnie", and to all of the faithful members of Pleasant Heights Baptist Church that showed their love and support to the family.
