Minnie Burnett

June 20, 1943 — September 2, 2019

Minnie Johnson Burnett, age 76, of Columbia, Tennessee, loving mom, grandmother, sister, and teacher, passed away peacefully September 2nd, 2019 at Maury Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family.

She was born on June 20, 1943, in Bessemer, Alabama, to Luther E. and Emily Estelle Harrison Johnson. Ms. Burnett attended West Blocton High School in West Blocton, AL where she excelled in academics and was very involved in many student clubs and activities. She began college at Auburn University as an undergraduate, and later married relocating to Columbia, Tennessee in 1970. She completed her college career as a second-generation college graduate at Middle Tennessee State University earning two degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Science in Education. Ms. Burnett worked as an educator for the Maury County Board of Education with 23 years of service. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching and interacting with her many students over the years. In addition, she worked in many other capacities and as a business woman before and during her teaching career and enjoyed anything and everything she put her mind to. Ms. Burnett was an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Beta Rho Chapter.

Minnie lived a life that mattered and made a difference in the lives of all who knew her. She knew how to support those she loved and passed on this wonderful gift to many, especially her children and grandchildren.

Minnie is survived by her daughter: Jill (Randy) Gaddes; grandchildren: Rebecca Burnett, Lily Gaddes, and Landon Gaddes; brothers: Luther E. Johnson, Jr., George E. Johnson, and Russell Vann Johnson; and special friend: Bill Hartley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son: Bryan Lynn Burnett; and the father of her children: Sandy McRae Burnett, Sr.

A Celebration of Minnie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2019, in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Terry Peery officiating. Immediately following the service, everyone is invited to the visitation in Blevins Hall, also at the funeral home.
