Minnie Kelley Barnes

September 9, 1930 — June 17, 2018

Mrs. Minnie Kelley Barnes, age 87, long time resident of Apache Trail in Columbia passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

The family will visit with friends on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from noon until 2:00 pm at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home, with Terry Peery officiating. Interment will follow at West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Miss Minnie as she was lovingly called by all who knew her, was one of seven children born to Dewey and Leecy Potts Kelley. A life long resident of Maury County, she was employed by Hancock Fabric store in her younger years. After retirement she was content to spend her days caring for her husband, Gene, her children, and grandchildren, along with her many friends.

Her love for sewing brought her much pleasure. She used her talent to do alterations and to create garments for friends and family.

She was a 70-year member of West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was faithful in attendance and financial support. She gave freely of her time and energy to promote the ministries of her church. She loved every West Point member and considered them all to be family.

Minnie’s kind and quiet personality, her unselfish service, and her words of wisdom will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by two sons: Roy K. (Lois) Barnes of Brentwood, TN and Robert E. Barnes of Columbia, TN; grandchildren: Jonathan W. Barnes of Lawrenceburg, TN and Caren Barnes of Boston, Mass.; two great grandsons: Colten and Noah Barnes of Lawrenceburg, TN; one brother: Clyde (Jean) Kelley of Columbia, TN; one sister: Linda (Roger) Hill of Columbia, TN; two sister-in-laws: Naomi Kelley of Santa Fe, TN and Barbara Rowland of Columbia, TN and one brother-in-law: Bobby Barnes of Somerville, AL. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Eugene Barnes; her grandson, Nathan Barnes; brothers, J.C. Kelley and Billy Kelley; sisters, Lorene Kelley Barnes and Katie Kelley and special friend, Clyde Yeager.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Priest, David Priest, Jonathan Barnes, Bill Barnes, Kenny Brady, David McMeen, John Wilkinson, Mike McCord, Jerry Potts and Doug Williams.

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of West Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church and friends and neighbors of Chantay Acres Subdivision.
