Milton Leroy Burns

October 26, 1937 — February 12, 2008

Mr. Milton Leroy Burns, age 70, a resident of Caldwell Drive in Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, February 12, at Maury Regional Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Burns will be conducted Friday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Keith Sherwood officiating. Burial will follow in the Neapolis Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19.

The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. at the funeral home.

The Maury County native was the son of the late Burton and Rosa Shepherd Burns and husband of Gloria Quirk Burns, whom he was married to for 49 years. He was retired from the Maintenance Dept. Flat Fold Dept. at CPS and had worked for Monsanto, Columbia Mill & Elevator and Columbia Express. He was an Assistant Boy Scout Master for the Troop at Riverside United Methodist, boy's baseball coach, a Columbia Central High School Band Booster parent, avid gardener and a caretaker to many. He was a member of the Neapolis United Methodist Church and veteran of the US Army.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include: his sons, Phillip Wade Lauri Kaye Burns of Columbia and Eric Lee Michelle Burns of Franklin; granddaughter, Hannah Burns of Franklin; sisters, Doris Malugin of Columbia and Hazel Long of Nashville; brother, Donnie Wanda Burns of Theta; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Roburda Harbison and Mary Jean Mullins; brother, Gerald "Jerry" David Burns; brother-in-law, Thomas Malugin.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Malugin, Dennis Malugin, Michael Malugin, Frank Curtis Mullins, Carl Harbison, Ricky Long, Jeff Long and Steve Long. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Neapolis United Methodist Church, past employees of Columbia Mill & Elevator, past employees of Monsanto, and past employees of CPS.
